Fibre Optic Internet

Village Council and staff have worked over the years to provide new opportunities and enhance existing services in our community for telecommunications and internet service. We were very pleased when Telus completed an upgrade with the cell phone tower in Edgerton, providing much better cell phone coverage in our community. For internet service in our community there are a number of wireless service providers such as MCS Net, CCIwireless and Xplornet. At the Alberta Urban Municipalities Conference last fall we had some conversations with AXIA and the possibilities of them providing fibre optic internet service in Edgerton. A presentation was then made to Village Council by AXIA and a motion was made to allow them to seek expressions of interest from the community in their service.
In order for AXIA to consider providing fibre optic internet service they require interest expressed by 30% of the serviceable residential and business addresses in Edgerton. Residents can expect to have mail drop information from AXIA over the next month as well as information in the March Utility billing from the Village office to provide you with details of how to express interest in their service and what type of service and cost AXIA will provide. If there is sufficient interest expressed the Village Council will be required to sign a Municipal Access Agreement with AXIA. If there is a positive response, residents could expect to have the option of fibre optic internet service provided by AXIA by late fall 2016.
The fibre optic service from AXIA is only available within the municipal boundaries of the Village of Edgerton. Rural residents and businesses still have the options of service from the wireless service providers.

I am very interested in fibre optic internet and am willing to support the town as they progress as I am currently with mcsnet.
