January 2018

   A New Year and a new spring in our step! A New Year brings change and optimism and 2018 is set to build on the fantastic year the Friendly Oasis enjoyed in 2017. We hope everyone enjoyed the holidays and is rested, ready, and eager to hit 2018 running- we are!

Eagles Nest
   The Eagles Nest Out of School Care (ENOOSC) Society has taken several proactive steps in promoting organizational sustainability and viability:
• they have begun a communications strategy, beginning with the creation of a dedicated Facebook page (Edgerton Eagles Nest Child Care) to share information and interact with stakeholders;
• building on their successful home pizza kit fundraisers, they are now offering Soup Time gourmet soup kits until January 30;
• they have led the creation of the Edgerton & Area 2018 Child Care Needs Assessment Survey, which will be active from February 5-16. This survey will help to guide next steps, fill service gaps, and assist in sourcing funding. Completed surveys can be dropped off at the Village Office, Edgerton Public School, or the Edgerton Public Library, or emailed to EaglesNestOOSC@gmail.com.

Dog Licenses
   We would like to remind our local dog owners that all dogs within the Village of Edgerton are required to have a valid current license and tag. Licenses need to be renewed every year by the end of January and can be purchased at the Village office. The cost is $7.35 for neutered dogs, $14.70 for non-neutered.

5020-54 Ave Public Notice
   The clearing of the brush and buildings on the property at 5020-54 Ave has been completed; the buildings removed for disposal; large logs removed for burning in a few years; and the brush has been piled with the intention of it being burned next month, provided there is fresh snow cover. We will ensure that there is a southerly wind so that the smoke will flow northwards and out of the village.
   Should anyone need or want firewood, please arrange with the Waste Site Attendant to acquire wood at the Waste Site during regular hours.
Spring 2018 will see the removal of the remaining two buildings on the property and the Village will disc and seed the field. This puts the community in position to better control the fire and rodent risk.
   It is important to stress that this is a municipally owned property and the actions described above are in the best interest of our residents, in terms of fire safety and pest control, and that future development on this property is an exciting prospect for the entire community.

New Employee
   The Village of Edgerton is excited to welcome Judy Dickson to the team. Judy will be working as the Office Assistant, working on day to day admin, filing, inputting data, helping to populate our website, campsite management, and much more! We’re glad to have Judy working with the Village and we look forward to learning all the ways we can utilize her strengths.

Did You Know?

Edgerton was named after one of the workers laying down the rail way tracks. Determined to have the name pronounced properly, he inserted the “d” into the name Egerton.
